Unexpected grace...

How wonderful is God’s grace, and the goodness of people’s hearts!

For the second time in the last two weeks, I’ve been met by strangers, angels in disguise, at the grocery store, who have offered to help me with getting my groceries into my car.

As you know, I’m always in my cassock when I’m out and about during my regular work hours, so it’s obvious that I’m a priest. It’s also obvious that I have trouble carrying things.

I’ve also now had three people stop me just to talk in the last three weeks, their hearts burdened by the renewed revelations of sexual misconduct and abuse of power in the Roman Catholic Church.

In all of these recent interactions, I’ve been met with love and grace. I am grateful beyond words to be met with such grace, and the opportunity to be present with others in their burdens. Truly, we bear each other’s burdens, and bear God’s grace to each other.

Thanks be the God!
